A sad day has arrived ladies and gentlemen, the end of fantasy football for the year. I came in 9th place, one place away from making the final 8 bracket. And the stinger of all it, the 8th place team won only one more game than I did, yet I had more actual accumulated points than he had. I was in 12th place two weeks ago, so I am happy with my final status–last place would’ve stunk! I am a little melancholy that I was that close to the final elimination bracket and I lost based on a couple games when I was only beat by a few measly points. C’est la vie…

Only 9 months until the next league begins!

This Thanksgiving weekend was a wild weekend in Rapinland…the adventure to Meijer for a Wii was only the beginning. To cut all the anticipation, we got our Wii’s. We went at midnight to Meijer, who guaranteed having at least 30 Wii’s, to find that this one alone had 66 Wii’s. We were the first people in SIGHT to get in line for any item–a stock clerk named Josh had to find out where we were to stand. He advised us that we could probably come back at 5am and still get them, but we took no chances and settled into line as Wii holders 1, 2, 3, and 4. We read our books, played euchre, helped LeeAnn with her algebra homework, and took turns shopping the store for other items on sale. The first person to join us in line came around 3:30am. Yes, we were laughed at by other employees and shoppers.

Silly us, riding on our Wii euphoria, we decided to go get in line at Target for seasons of House and One Tree Hill. Target was one giant bad idea–it was an absolute madhouse! People were shoulder to shoulder “shopping”, if you could call it that. I felt like cattle must on a roundup, pushed and prodded to go any which way but the way you want to go. Needless to say, Marie and LeeAnn got their DVD’s and they waited in line to pay while Kristin and I left to get home for some much needed sleep.

Marie, LeeAnn, and I went to Tecumseh for the remainder of the weekend on Friday afternoon. I went to visit with my parents and the girls had plans with high school friends who were home for the holiday weekend. My visit with my parents was nice–Mom and I went power shopping for Christmas and other items all day Saturday while my dad stayed home and watched GVSU lose in double overtime during the Division II football playoffs. Even our little shopping trip managed to be eventful–coming out of our first stop at Meijers, my mom tripped over the curb and fell into some mud. We cleaned her up somewhat in the bathroom, but we had to do some shopping at Kohls to buy her some new pants for the rest of the day–her khakis were a muddy mess. She almost tripped again at Panera, which would have been a total disaster given she would’ve fallen on the cement that time. I only mention her tripping because this is one of the few times in my life that I’ve been a witness, NOT the victim, in a scenario such as this. Usually I am the tripper.

Sunday, Marie and LeeAnn came to pick me up early-around12:30ish-because it was really starting to snow and the roads were getting bad. Too late–the roads were already bad, a combo of slush and wet snow that was coming down extremely quick. We were about 20 miles from T-town when we came down a hill and Marie lost control of the car. At about 30 mph, we went spinning across M50, did a 360, and landed on the opposite shoulder, about 2 feet away from four different trees. We were okay, as was the car, but we were all somewhat shook up. After several calls, we got a tow truck to come pull us out–Marie’s car was buried in some serious mud. Several kind people stopped in the meantime to check if we were okay and if we needed help. One idiot stopped to tell us we needed to slow down–some old dude who evidently needed to vent. We WERE going slow, dimwit!

The happy ending to the eventful weekend is that we made it back to Grand Rapids safely and I got a snow day today out of the snowstorm that put us in the ditch. Gotta love the first snow day of the year–it’s like Christmas break a little early!
